Maybe you should wait until she says yes first. Because what if the travesty happens that she says no. then you have the unfortunate embarrassment of taking the ring back. Hollywood has engrained it into our culture that a man has to get the ring before he asks the girl to show that he really is committed. This makes no sense for a man. If you’re willing to ask then a girl knows you’re serious. It’s presumptuous to think you can anticipate what a girl will want to wear on her finger for the rest of her life. Even if you get it right it’s still a little insulting to just pick such an important piece of jewelry out without even consulting her. But there are just so many options now that can be dangerous to get the wrong ring. These days, plenty of girls are looking for something new and special in their rings rather than the traditional solitaire clear diamond on a gold band. I don’t think girls are so shallow that they might be inclined to say no if they didn’t like the ring but how terrible would it be if she didn’t like the ring and said yes. It would be easier to just skip a step and get the girl to say yes first and then take her ring shopping. Nothing says serious commitment and honors the girl’s opinion better than shopping around in jewelry stores in Salt Lake City to find the perfect engagement ring. It is fine that jewelry stores in Utah cater to men shopping alone but I would never recommend it to a man.
